For example, long-tailed keywords are generally better than short phrases and “keyword stuffing” is no longer kosher. However, as soon as one tip is integrated, a new one appears. Google and other search engines are offering new SEO tips to help marketers in all fields make their websites more successful. Let’s examine some now.
Say What You Mean
In other words, if you want to draw attention to a headline, use that exact headline. For instance, Britain’s Telegraph has successfully increased visits to its website using headlines like “World Cup 2010” and “Six Nations Rugby Tournament.” It might seem redundant, but these headlines increase the number of clicks and visits because people know they’re getting exactly what they’ve searched for. Additionally, these headlines increase pingbacks and results from different search engines.
If you have a blog or website, use actual event names or prefixes to attract new visitors. Learn what people directed to your website are searching for and use those keywords. For instance, let’s say you’re a blogger writing about adoption. Use post titles like, “Domestic Adoptions Through Foster Care in United States” – it guarantees specific information while appealing to a wide range of readers.
As Google tells us, “pics get clicks.” Whenever possible, embed images or videos within blog posts or Web pages. If you’re an author, for example, consider embedding a book trailer. If you’re a pest control specialist, use licensed photos of large, scary-looking bugs to show you eradicate them. The best format is usually JPG. Don’t link images, but try to position them near headlines.
Avoid Click Bait
We’ve all seen click bait. It’s those stories or memes on social media or other websites with headlines like, “Watch what this man does when…” or, “This blind woman is pregnant. You won’t believe what her doctor does.” There’s nothing inherently wrong with the stories, but baiting readers is a cheap trick, and they know it. If you rely too much on emotions and sensationalism, you’ll lose your audience. Stick to specific, but ethos- and logos-driven headlines. This goes for pictures as well; they should be complements to headlines, not clickable hooks.
Keep Up Your Site or Blog
Of course, we all get busy or sick and miss news or posts once in a while. Generally though, it’s not good practice. Break news fast if you’re a news website. Keep readers hooked with fresh blog content, and avoid repeating topics unless a big story has major developments.
