Bye Bye Instagram

instagram-steerInstagram disclosed their new “no opting out” policy and surprised faithful users today, whom may not be so loyal anymore. In a nutshell, the company will be able to sell users’ photos effective January 16, 2013.

The terms of use, specifically users’ rights, states the following: “A business or other entity may pay Instagram to display users’ photos and other details in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.”

So, to avoid this altogether, your only option is to forget ever using Instagram. And, parents, yes, this applies to your children as well – they and you need to make sure everyone in the family is aware of this change.

These new terms allow Instagram the ability to do whatever they wish (sell photos to third parties) with YOUR photos and photos of YOUR children/family. Currently, their privacy policy states that Instagram “may” place your content on Instagram Services.

Instagram users were not happy today as many were posting on social media to express their concerns and to tell others to switch to something else. Many of the news networks were listing alternatives to Instagram as well.
