While many experts believed 2013 would be the year for Google’s much anticipated release of Glass, its delay suggests 2014 as the launch year. Hailed by many as a life changing advance in technology, Google Glass is expected to revolutionize the way we experience the world on a daily basis.
What Is Glass Anyway?
You’ve probably heard the buzz about Google Glass, but do you know what it is? Essentially, Glass is a wearable computer in the form of eyeglasses. It has an optical head-mounted display that provides the user with everything a smartphone or computer does, without the need for either. Glass will allow users to perform actions like take pictures, receive directions, surf the web, send messages, and more, without so much as lifting a finger. Glass will be voice-activated, and because the device is worn like regular glasses on your face, there will be no need to look away from what you are doing.

While the release date for Glass is still not official, all signs point to the release occurring sometime in 2014. Despite the uncertain release date however, Google insiders have announced a price estimate. Glass will reportedly retail for around $600 for the first couple of years. This news puts a slight damper on the excitement, but shouldn’t prevent it from being a success. The same sources expect the price to quickly drop to around $300 by 2016.
What Stage Is Glass in?
Thus far, the details behind Glass have been closely guarded, and what little we learn leaves us speculating as to what more is to come. Interesting news has recently surfaced, as well, that the New York City Police Department is also beginning to test the product – so it appears that Google is interested in more on-the-job product testing before releasing their first version to the general public.

Google’s official release declared that their new hardware update will “allow your Glass to work with future lines of shades and prescription frames, and we’ll also include a mono earbud.” The new prescription devices will be known as the Titanium Collection. This line will consist of four different styles of frames intended to offer a solution for those who wear prescription glasses.
